PLANS are in motion to scale back Covid-19 restrictions for a five day period to give the nation a more “normal” Christmas period.

But what does that mean for you? Here is everything you need to know about the coronavirus rules in place during the festive period, between December 23 and 27.

Christmas week will see a relaxation of restrictions on socialising. You can form a “Christmas bubble” of friends and family from a maximum of three households. You can meet indoors with people from your bubble between those days. Households in the same bubble can meet in one of their homes, outdoor public spaces or places of worship.

You can travel between tiers and UK nations for the purposes of meeting your bubble. When visiting a different tier to meet family members, the public are advised to follow the rules in that tier.

A spokesperson for the Government said: “Children whose parents do not live together may be part of both parents’ Christmas bubbles, if their parents choose to form separate bubbles. Nobody else should be in two bubbles.”

They said: "If you are a student who has moved home for the university holidays, you are considered to be part of the household to which you have returned. You are not treated as part of your term-time household for this period."

Pubs, restaurants and bars are closed in tier three but for tier two regions like Cumbria you can visit a pub with people you live with and order alcohol alongside a substantial meal. All shops will be able to open over Christmas but who you can attend with is dependant on tier restrictions in your area.

Those classified as clinically vulnerable can form a Christmas bubble.
