A CUMBRIAN mountain rescue team came to the aid of an exhausted runner who was attempting a major physical challenge.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team came to the assistance of a 46-year-old man on Tuesday after he had become exhausted attempting to run a coast-to-coast route.
The man had been on the move for 24 hours, and had reached the Haweswater area.
A spokesman for the Penrith Mountain Rescue Team explained that "the runner contacted his wife saying he was very cold and was seeking shelter under some trees.
"Unable to contact her husband further due to a poor mobile phone signal, she called Derbyshire Police who contacted Cumbria Police."
Cumbria Police then alerted the Penrith team to the plight of the exhausted runner.
The Penrith team scrambled 27 members, who began conducting a search.
After conducting a series of search patterns, they quickly found the man in woodland near Burnbanks.
"He was taken back to Penrith base to await the arrival of his wife and brother," the team spokesman said.
