A DISABLED man is calling on hospital bosses to carry out a full investigation after he claimed a member of staff stole items while he was undergoing treatment.

Russell Lloyd, 64, claims that a medical worker at Furness General Hospital stole medication and his bank card during a 10-day stay at the hospital.

He said he was ‘disappointed’ that hospital chiefs have not launched an internal probe into the alleged thefts.

Mr Lloyd, who lives in Haverigg, was a patient in the hospital’s acute medical unit in July when he was receiving treatment on his liver.

He claims a member of staff took his Tramadol pills, prescribed for osteoarthritis, and suspects that his bank card was also taken.

He alleges that a staff member took the pills and placed them in the locker.

According to Mr Lloyd, the alleged card theft was reported to the police by hospital staff - but not the medication.

Describing the alleged incident, he said: “I looked through my pockets and I couldn’t find the card.

“And a box had been taken out my pocket.

“I raised this with staff and they said my medication had been put in the locker.

“But they were gone and they called and called and called the person who put them there and there was no response.

“Senior management did not believe what I and other patients on the ward were saying.

“Why would two middle aged men who had never set eyes on each other come up with the same story?

“They saw me as a hostile witness rather than a victim. It stinks.”

Mr Lloyd said the ordeal had caused him a great deal of stress and affected his ability to recover while in hospital.

He said: “I felt vulnerable, like I was being disbelieved. I got really upset.

“It was really affecting me and didn’t help my recovery. The whole thing has angered me.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust, which runs FGH, was contacted for comment but did not respond before The Mail went to press.
