A 16-year-old girl has been sentenced to a nine month contract with the youth offending panel after she carried out a brutal attack on three younger children.

At the beginning of August the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, assaulted a 12-year-old girl on Burnley Manchester Road train station.

The incident, in which the defendant repeatedly hit and kicked the youngster was all filmed on a mobile phone.

A boy was also pushed to the ground and kicked in the face, and a second young girl was hit and kicked.

On August 4, officers from the British Transport Police arrested the 16-year-old and charged her with three counts of assault, as well as railway trespass.

At the time, a spokesperson for the BTP said: "A 12-year old girl was assaulted at Burnley Manchester Road Station (repeatedly hit and kicked), and it was all filmed on a mobile phone.

"Another young male was pushed to the ground and kicked in the face, and a further young girl was also hit and kicked.

"Yesterday we arrested a 16-year-old girl in relation to this incident.

"She has been charged with three offences of assault, plus railway trespass.

"We also imposed bail conditions to protect the vulnerable victims."

Following the arrest and charges, the teen appeared before the courts on Monday and pleaded guilty to each offence.

A spokesperson for the BTP said: "The 16-year old offender has been sentenced to a nine month contract with the youth offending panel to address her behaviour.

"She has to pay the first victim £50 compensation, plus pay £107 court costs and surcharge."
