These shocking images show the damage caused by a crash at a busy junction.
The incident, which happened on Lower Audley Street close to the Darwen Street bridge on Tuesday afternoon left a car so severely crushed that the roof had to be cut off so the driver could be removed by fire crews.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service, who were called at 12.49pm and sent two ambulances as well as a rapid response vehicle said two female occupants were taken to hospital with 'major trauma'.
The spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.49pm and took two females to Royal Preston Hospital with major trauma."
Residents in the area said it was only a matter of time before an accident occurred at that junction.
Michelle Ayres who took the images, said: "It was only a matter of time before an accident happened there.
"It's always fascinated me how cars slip through the red lights and because of their impatience, they're blocking the way for oncoming traffic."
Fire crews, police and ambulance crews attended the scene, which brought traffic to a halt for a number of hours.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Two fire engines from Blackburn attended a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Lower Audley Street in Blackburn.
"Firefighters used stabilising equipment, cutters and spreaders to extricate two casualties who were treated by ambulance crews."
The extent of the occupant's injuries is not yet known.
