A GOLF day organised by Oswald’s Tree Foundation has raised thousands for the League of Friends (LoF) to the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH).

The charity event, which was held at Oswestry Golf Club, was organised by the Oswestry-based foundation to raise vital funds for the LoF as a way of saying thank you for the support they have provided to staff and patients throughout the pandemic.

A total of 124 golfers took to the greens at Oswestry Golf Club to raise £1,400 for the League, a charity that gives essential support for patients, relatives and staff by providing services, organising volunteers, funding equipment, issuing grants and being at the heart of wellbeing for RJAH in Gobowen.

Oswald's Tree Foundation was created by the directors and committee members of FC Oswestry Town, which unfortunately folded as a result of the pandemic. They focus on working within the community and aim to raise money for local charities.

Mike Ferguson, Oswald’s Tree Foundation member, said: “We are overwhelmed by the support our charity golf day received and I want to thank everyone who joined us on the day and made it such a success.

"The LoF is a very deserving local cause which is close to many of our hearts.

“Credit must go to the whole team at Oswald’s Tree Foundation, despite the collapse of FC Oswestry Town we have stuck together to continue our fundraising work within the local community and what a successful event to kick start this exciting new chapter.”

Mike’s wife Julie works at the RJAH on the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries.

Julie, a rehabilitation nurse, added: “The League of Friends provided us with so much support throughout the pandemic.

"All the added extras they funded helped staff and patients get through an extremely difficult period of time – this is our way of saying a huge thank you.”

Victoria Sugden, charity director for the hospital Friends, said: “We are so grateful for this tremendous support, to achieve such a large amount during this difficult time is outstanding.”
