RESIDENTS are being asked to share their opinions on an order to tackle alcohol use in public spaces.

Flintshire Council is to consult on extending the current Alcohol Control PSPO as required to by the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

The prohibitions proposed would mean any person who, without reasonable excuse, continues drinking intoxicating liquor in a public area within the restricted area when asked to stop by an authorised officer, commits an offence.

Additionally it would mean anyone who, whilst in a public area within the restricted area, without reasonable excuse, fails to surrender any intoxicating liquor in their possession when asked to do so by an authorised officer, also commits an offence.

Any breaches would result in the issuing of a Fixed Penalty Notice to the person failing to comply the prohibition.

This matter is now open for consultation via a survey on the following web page is www.flintshire.gov.uk/alcoholPSPO which includes the full proposals, a list of potential sites where the prohibitions would be enforced, a Frequently Asked Questions document, and a copy of the draft order.

A Flintshire Council spokesman said: "Please take the time to complete the survey, we value your opinion and the consultation will be open until September 4."
