A car has been 'completely destroyed' by fire at Maiden Newton near Dorchester.

A crew from Dorchester Fire Station was alerted to the incident just after 9.30am today.

Upon arrival firefighters quickly got to work: two breathing apparatus wearers used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The car was completely destroyed but the owner is safe and well, having pulled over to as safe a place as possible once noticing smoke coming from the exhaust and dashboard."
