Falmouth's oldest pub has announced its reopening - along with a few changes in place.

The Seven Stars will be opening its doors again this Friday for the first time since pubs and restaurants were ordered to close by the Government back in March, to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Now landlady Amy Bennetts said: "The moment we have all been waiting, for we are planning to open on Friday 17th at midday, albeit a little differently.

"We can only offer outside seating, which remains at two-metre social distancing. The toilet facilities inside the pub are open and these are a one in one out.

"There may only be a couple of benches outside on Friday or we may have all eight - fingers crossed - so seating may be at a premium."

She said signs would be dotted around reminding customers of the new way of working and asked people to respect them and help the pub keep them safe and remain open.

Amy added: "To begin with over the next few weeks our cask offering may be a little limited to gauge business."

There will also be a new ordering system in place as customers arrive:

Customers should find a vacant table following the guidelines of social distancing and have been asked not to wait for one to become available if they are full, but to come back and try again later.

A note should be taken of the table number before one member of the group goes to the middle window of the bar to place orders and pay. Basic contact details will be taken at this point for Track and Trace.

Drinks will be brought to the table on a tray and to limit contact this will be placed on a table by a staff member, who will then stand back while glasses are taken.

Customers are asked to remain seated unless ordering drinks or using the toilets, including children, and to bring hand sanitiser with them and wash their hands.

Tables will be wiped down after each use and toilets, along with all contact areas, will be cleaned hourly.

"We're excited to see you all and thank you so much for all your continued support in all of this craziness," said Amy.

The pub won the real ale category of the Packet Pub of the Year competition last year, as voted for by readers.

Amy is the seventh generation of her family to take up her place behind the bar and knew from the age of four that this is what she wanted to do.

The Seven Stars is said to have opened in 1660, one year before Falmouth received its royal charter, meaning that the pub is officially older than the town itself.
