AN Avon and Somerset Police officer has been dismissed for gross misconduct.

A hearing this week was told that PC Dave Adams skipped an event he had been instructed by a superior officer to attend.

Adams, who was the second PC sacked by the force during the week, also gave a "dishonest, misleading and inaccurate" account of why he missed the event.

The hearing was told he failed to take responsibility for failing to attend and tried to deflect the blame from himself.

It also emerged that he lied when he told his manager he did not work from home.

The panel ruled that Adams’s actions amounted to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour and he was dismissed without notice.

Superintendent Simon Wilstead, head of the Professional Standards Department, said: “Officers are required to fulfil their duties and responsibilities diligently, and where that doesn’t happen they can expect that their performance and conduct will be held to account.

“Honesty and integrity are fundamental requirements in the policing role and when officers are dishonest the sanctions can be anticipated to be serious.”
