FANS of McDonald's breakfast rejoiced as the classic McMuffin returned to the chain's menu – but Bolton's store isn't ready to bring back the bacon.

Just 28 open locations were unable to offer the early-morning treat to customers, including branches in Bolton, St James Street in Burnley, and the Trafford Centre.

Over 1,250 sites added the breakfast menu back to their range yesterday, as the fast food giant edged closer to normal operations following the coronavirus pandemic.

It is hoped that Bolton's Knowsley Street store will be offering up bacon rolls from next week.

Paul Pomroy, chief executive officer for McDonald's UK and Ireland, said: "As with our main menu, we will have a limited menu at breakfast but we’ve kept the classics – hash browns, McMuffins and pancakes all return.

"Unfortunately, whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines, we are unable to serve porridge, bagels and our Breakfast Wrap.

"This is because we have fewer people in the kitchen."

McDonald’s has slowly been re-opening stores since closing for coronavirus lockdown and now operates a limited breakfast menu with just a bacon roll, hash browns, the McMuffin range, cheesy bacon flatbread, and pancakes.

Dining areas are still closed, so customers are advised to either order for delivery, via the Uber Eats app, or via a Drive-Thru.
