DOM Bess has been given the nod over Somerset team-mate Jack Leach, being named the sole spin bowler in England's 13-man squad for the first Test against the West Indies this week.
Bess is the sole Somerset player in the squad, although Leach and Craig Overton are among nine reserves.
Bess has also seen off Moeen Ali and Matt Parkinson to be first choice spinner, having impressed in South Africa over the winter - being called up after Leach fell ill.
Ben Stokes stands in for Joe Root - who is attending the birth of his second child - as England captain for the match, which begins on Wednesday (July 8) at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
Taunton-born Jos Buttler retains his place as wicketkeeper.
