A WELL-known chef with an eatery in Falmouth has confirmed that he is taking over the former Rick Stein restaurant in Porthleven.

There were rumours in the national press yesterday that Gordon Ramsay was interested in the site, however it has now been confirmed that fellow celebrity chef Michael Caines, who took over The Cove at Maenporth earlier this year, will take it on.

It was announced last month that Rick Stein would not be reopening the Porthleven site when lockdown restrictions were eased.

Acclaimed chef restaurateur and hotel owner Michael will now make it his second Cornish venture.

It will join the Michael Caines Collection, which as well as Maenporth, includes luxury country house hotel and restaurant Lympstone Manor and a new project in Exmouth.

Michael said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to pick up where Rick and Jill Stein have left off, taking over this wonderful property in Porthleven.

"We are looking forward to working with Trevor Osborne, the owner of Porthleven Harbour & Dock Company, to continue to grow Porthleven as a destination and develop a restaurant that warmly welcomes both locals and visitors through its doors.

"We’re looking forward to sharing details of this exciting new venture in due course."

Falmouth Packet:

With a prime quayside position, with Michael at the helm the venue will serve "a contemporary interpretation of his relaxed seaside fare, shining a light on the very best Cornish produce and English wines, matched with exceptional and charming service".

Mr Osborne said: "It is with great pleasure that I shall welcome the distinguished and popular chef, Michael Caines, to Porthleven.

"His reputation goes before him and I know that he will not disappoint.

"I much look forward to his new venue opening."
