COULD Falmouth Docks have been one of the last beacons of commercial industrial steam in Britain?

Quite possibility, according to Bodmin & Wenford Railway press officer Jimmy James, who kindly sent in this series of images of Falmouth Docks steam engines in active service.

The photos are believed to have been taken in the 1970s, and with British Railways' steam traction ending in August 1968, James believes that Falmouth could have been the last pocket of commercial industrial steam in the country.

The black and white images were taken by Dave Letcher, signalman at B&WR, while the colour image was taken by former B&WR volunteer Steve Lloyd. Both Dave and Steve now live in Camborne.
