A blind and brain damaged dog that was buried alive in a rubbish dump in Thailand is loving her new life in Cadgwith.

Julie and Mark Oldfield rescued Flora (previously Thora) in March and the collie was due to arrive in Amsterdam in the same month, along with five other dogs who had been offered forever homes in the UK.

However things were not plain sailing for the 'Super Six', due to the evolving pandemic Covid-19.

Julie and Mark were told that the trip had been cancelled and the dogs were effectively stuck in the Soi Dog sanctuary in Phuket. However, out of the blue they received a message from Soi asking if they could collect Flora from the airport if a flight could be found for the dogs.

The Super Six were booked on the flights and were met by Julie, Mark and the other adopters.

Julie said: "Flora has settled in nicely here in Cadgwith, she is an amazing dog, considering she is blind and brain damaged due to being buried alive in a rubbish dump as a puppy.

"She is completely house trained even though she has never lived in a house before. Her favourite pastime is trotting around the garden avoiding the ducks and chickens."

As a way of saying thank you to the Soi Dog Foundation, Julie and Flora will be undertaking a 60 mile sponsored walk in July.

Since Flora is unable to walk in a straight line she will be clocking up her miles via a tracker in the garden.

The foundation’s main aim has been to control dog populations by neutering and vaccinating as many as possible, with the animals then returned to where they came from.
