'I CHOOSE love'. 'I need nature'. 'I need to listen'...

A walk down The Archers Way, off Glastonbury High Street, can also be an impromptu trip to an art gallery, thanks to the work of a town artist.

Throughout the coronavirus crisis, Melanie Thompson has been creating an installation in her front garden, documenting her reactions to the lockdown and the ongoing pandemic.

Each week, she has created a board detailing a reaction, and they have been placed in the garden for others to take in.

"Due to the lockdown, I decided I would create an installation in my front garden about my reactions to the crisis," she explained.

"Over the last eight weeks I have created a single statement on a black board with white lettering, all starting with the letter 'I'.

"Each week I have put up a new board responding to the week before."

From 'I want to change' to 'I need nature', the eye-catching installation has taken over the garden, and drawn widespread attention form those passing the semi-detached property.

"What I was hoping was that my feelings resonated not just with me but others passing by as well," Melanie added.

"I have had many conversations about the work over the fence and have even been given money."

In August, Melanie is set to exhibit all 12 boards in the garden of a new gallery - Heart of the Tribe - in Glastonbury.

She also intends to make boards for other people to buy and to put in their gardens.
