A vehicle has been left 'severely damaged' after a fire on the M5.

Emergency services were called to the M5 southbound between Junction 24 Bridgwater and J25 Taunton at around 8.50am this morning (June 21).

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "Two fire engines from Bridgwater were sent to the above location to reports of an incident.

"On arrival, crews confirmed this to be a vehicle, on the hard shoulder, well alight.

"Police closed the southbound carriageway to allow firefighting to take place.

"The vehicle was extinguished using two breathing apparatus wearers and one hose reel jet.

"The vehicle was severely damaged by fire and the cause was accidental.

"Duty of care was left with the police and the vehicle owner."
