Hospitals in Cornwall have reported an eighth day of no further deaths relating to coronavirus being recorded.

The total number of people to have lost their lives in hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19 remains at 90, where it has been since last Tuesday, June 2.

In all, 64 people have died at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and 26 at hospitals run by the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Yesterday the Packet reported that while there were no further deaths in Cornish hospitals, the overall total had risen.

The latest Office for National Statistics totals, which include deaths in hospitals, care homes and the wider community, have been updated to 198, having stood at 192 in the previous update a week ago.

Now more details have been given, in a breakdown of figures that show 83 of these occurred outside hospitals.

Today’s figures from NHS England show that in the south west as a whole there were two further deaths relating to coronavirus confirmed over the last 24 hours.

Across England a further 88 people who tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 27,707.

Patients were aged between 43 and 102 years old. Three patients - aged between 53 and 87 - had no known underlying health conditions. Their families have been informed.

NHS England and NHS Improvement also report the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result, but where the virus is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death.

Today, 19 deaths are reported under these circumstances.
