The remainder of Cornwall's tips are to open this week as some restrictions start to relax.

By this Friday all 14 waste and recycling centres will be open again, following the reopening of Dudnance Lane at Pool this Wednesday, June 3 at 9am and Tintagel this Friday, following Saltash today.

However, the Pool centre is not reopen fully and will only be accepting garden waste, with no general household (black bag) waste allowed as per usual.

A traffic management scheme will be in place so that queuing visitors will be directed by traffic marshals to the Pool Market site and then directed to the tip site when capacity is available.

The number plate entry system remains in place at all centres, meaning if the last digit in your number plate is odd you can only visit on an odd date of the month. If it is ‘0’ or even, visit on an even date.

In other changes, all sites will now accept trailers, in accordance with the existing permit system.

However, it comes with a warning that using a trailer and multiple containers may make your visit longer, so people are asked to pre-sort rubbish to speed up visits and keep themselves safe.

At some centres the current traffic management and marshalling systems in place will be reduced from this week, with people asked to follow directions as they arrive.

The plans is to extend the range of items that can be taken to the tips in the near future.

Rob Nolan, Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for environment and public protection, said: “This reopening of the last few sites is the result of a significant effort by our waste team and contractors Suez, and in Saltash and Pool I urge residents to follow the traffic diversions and marshal instructions.

“This is another big step back to normality, but social distancing and avoiding virus infection remains our main priority, so please read the information on our website before setting out.

“We hope to extend the range of accepted materials soon, so please look out for information on this at your local site.

"Thank you all for your continuing patience and observation of these necessary restrictions.”
