A WIDNES woman is helping her community by 'Taking a walk in their shoes'.

Kelly Harrison, 33, who works full-time as a housing support officer has been running Taking a walk in their shoes from her home for over two years, providing local families with food parcels and other essential items they need.

On Thursday evening hampers were delivered to staff and residents at Anchor Widnes Hall and Voyage Care Maeres House.

Fifty meals were then delivered to those in need of a hot meal, kindly donated by staff at Desii Inidan Cuisine in Widnes.

She said: "As well as the extra work we have now started to do, our main focus has always been providing families and those struggling financially with food parcels and we are in desperate need of donations.

Runcorn and Widnes World:

"We will be going donation shopping on Monday and we already have families on our list who we will be providing four to six bags of food to."

Each parcel costs on average of between £25-£40, depending on the family size.

"We also help during half term providing families with extra food when children wouldn't be receiving their free school meals.

"Since we have been running we have providing the local domestic violence accommodation changing lives with Christmas hampers and Easter eggs for the families living there, and since lockdown provided an extra 24 bags of food to the 12 families living there.

"We have now decided that as well as the food parcels we will choose a care home to receive a hamper of items needed. We started by providing nurses on icu with drinks and snacks and toiletries."

The next care home to receive hampers will be Millbrow Care Home.

Kelly added: "If someone who works there would like to get in touch to let us know what they need.

"We will be choosing another every two weeks through nominations on our page."

Donations can be made via the Facebook page Taking a walk in their shoes through PayPal and by dropping items off.
