CORNWALL has marked a week without a coronavirus death in its hospitals.

Bank Holiday Monday's NHS England update shows the total at 86, where it has been since last Monday.

A week ago it rose by one from 85.

The figures only cover deaths in hospitals, with 60 having taken place at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and 26 at hospitals under the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The overall number of deaths in all settings in Cornwall has been put at a minimum of 174 by the Office for National Statistics at the last update.

Across England, a further 59 people who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 25,750.

Patients were aged between 44 and 98 years old. Of those, four - aged between 56 and 91- had no known underlying health condition, NHS England.

However, NHS England said the Covid Patient Notification System did not operate between 4.55am and 3pm on Sunday, "due to connectivity issues experienced by an external supplier".

It added: "The number of deaths reported today by NHS England and NHS Improvement may therefore reflect this situation. The system is now fully operational and the reports of any deaths which were not able to be entered yesterday will be uploaded and reconciled."

In the south west as a whole, a further four deaths have been recorded.

There have been 573 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to date.
