Firefighters pulled a person from a burning building in Truro late last night.

Critical Control received a 999 call from a resident of Tresawya Drive just before 11pm, reporting smoke coming from a neighbour's flat and that the person was inside.

Three crews from Truro and Tolvaddon fire stations were sent immediately, along with a station manager and an incident commander.

Critical Control also urgently contacted police and ambulance control rooms and both sent resources immediately.

A fire service spokesperson said: "The first crew arrived on scene and forced entry into the property which was smoke logged.

"A priority message was sent back to Critical Control stating 'Flat smoke logged. Confirm P persons reported'."

A fourth engine was then sent, also from Tolvaddon, to make sure crews had sufficient resources at the incident, before it returned to provide fire cover for the Camborne-Pool-Redruth area.

The spokesperson added: "Crews searching the property, located the occupant, who was rescued and taken to safety.

"Crews administered first aid to the casualty who was suffering from smoke inhalation until the arrival of an ambulance."

An initial fire investigation identified the cause to be from cooking.

"The fire was accidental and confined, although there was smoke spread into communal areas," added the spokesperson.
