THE organisers of Bridgwater Carnival said they are in the process of reviewing what impact coronavirus could have on this year's event.

In a statement posted on their website on Saturday (April 25) organisers of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival said they are doing a 'comprehensive' review of this year's carnival activities and expect to make an announcement within the next seven days.

Organisers at Bridgwater Carnival said they have already introduced a number of 'proactive' measures to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19 including cancelling face to face committee meetings and fundraising events.

The statement said: "As event organisers, we are closely monitoring the rapidly changing coronavirus situation in the UK and we will continue to follow Government guidance and advice.

"We are also in the process of reviewing the impact of this year’s activities, and we will continue to work with our carnival clubs, our walking entries and the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnivals Association during the coming days and weeks to make sure we do the right thing.

"Once we have finished this comprehensive review, we will make an announcement about our 2020 carnival activities.

"This announcement is expected within the next seven days, and we ask you to bear with us while we complete this review.

"The carnival community has already introduced a number of proactive measures to reduce the risk of spreading Coronavirus, some of which include:

- Cancelling face to face committee meetings until further notice

- Cancelling fundraising events

- Cancelling the 2020 Old Folks Show which was due to take place at the end of March

- Postponement of the 2020 Carnival Concerts front of curtain act auditions

"These are extraordinary and unprecedented times, and our thoughts are very much with those who have been affected and impacted by Coronavirus."
