THE headquarters of a Taunton council is set to close to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Deane House, home of Somerset West and Taunton Council, has closed following the latest guidance form the government.

The council had advised while many of its services can be found online, anyone still needing to meet face-to-face can make an appointment. This can be done by calling 0300 304 8000 between 8am and 6pm.

The council is urging people to communicate online where possible, especially regarding planning matters.

The planning portal can be used to submit applications or email planning@somersetwestandtaunton.gov.uk for advice.

Leader of the council, Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts said: “The health and safety of our staff and our residents is our top priority.

"We are following advice from Public Health England daily and understand that this is a worrying time but be reassured that we will communicate with you effectively and maintain core services.”
