A NIGHT club in Taunton has announced it intends to stay open this weekend despite people being urged to stay at home.

Zinc Taunton posted on its Facebook page, letting people know it will still be open tonight (Wednesday), Friday and Saturday.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged people to avoid going out to places such as bars, theatres and restaurants as measures are put into place to try and stop the spread of coronavirus.

But these venues have not been officially told to close their doors.

Concern for small and independent businesses is growing during these challenging financial times.

A spokesperson for the nightclub said: "We are still open as normal this Wednesday, Friday and Saturday .

"All of our staff are taking the highest precautions in hygiene and sanitation as per the government guidelines.

"All tills have contactless card readers to help reduce touch points - we have no minimum spend in place for card transactions.

"Please ensure you are using the hand washing facilities provided within the venue and please - don’t steal our toilet roll."
