THE security boss at Musgrove Park Hospital is upping CCTV coverage following a spate of thefts from the site's bicycle storage area.

A number of NHS employees at the Taunton hospital have complained of bikes and parts being taken.

One member of staff, who asked not to be named, said: "My colleague had her wheel stolen earlier this month.

"Prior to that she had her previous bike stolen.

"We've just found out that it's happening a lot and it seems the CCTV pictures covering certain areas of the hospital aren't good.

"We think the hospital should provide more bike sheds for staff, with access via your ID badge."

The worker added that while Musgrove is encouraging people to walk or cycle to work, staff will be put off if the bike thefts continue.

Andrew Sinclair, who is responsible for security at Musgrove, said: "I am sorry to hear that a number of bicycles have gone missing from one of our onsite bicycle storage areas.

"Theft is completely unacceptable and we will increase CCTV coverage of our bicycle storage areas to help stamp out this criminal activity.

"If anyone suffers from loss or theft of property while at Musgrove Park Hospital, please call our security team on 01823-333444, who will do their best to assist you.

"They may be also able to help you to liaise with the police if needed.

"We continue to encourage our staff, patients and visitors to cycle to Musgrove where possible and we have over 210 spaces on bicycle racks available to them."
