COOKING materials left on a hob ended in firefighters being called out to a Somerset property.

Crews from Glastonbury, Street and Wells were sent to the scene, in Glastonbury High Street, at just after 6pm yesterday (February 24) evening after reports of an alarm sounding and a smell of burning.

"On arrival crews discovered a strong smell of burning in the communal area and the alarms were sounding," said a Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.

"The fire was discovered in one of the flats involving cooking materials that had been left on a hob.

"Crews used one hose reel jet, one 45ml jet, one thermal imaging camera and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire."
