THE leader of a Taunton church that puts up homeless people over the weekend has issued a plea for help.

Members of The Salvation Army have been running a night shelter on Friday and Saturday nights at its premises in South Street.

A Facebook post on Taunton Chaplaincy says: "They started this because it was so obvious that something needed to be done.

"It has been working well and they have hosted about 10 people each week, They are also using Bishop's Hull Church.

"They are also part of the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol provision, which has been mobilised over the last two weekends to follow on Sunday night."

The Salvation Army's leader, Lieutenant Theresa Torr, is appealing for more people who are willing to go along and help set up during the day.

She would also appreciate assistance from anyone who can work during the night, even if only for a few hours, and people who would be willing to help clean in the mornings.

The Facebook post adds: "At present Theresa has to move stuff backwards and forwards from room to room to make space for their church activity."
