THE family of a woman who died suddenly on the railway line near Taunton have paid tribute to their "beautiful, happy, caring girl".

Melanie Newland, 29, died in the incident near the county town on Monday, February 3.

Her family say she was also "a special sister, daughter, granddaughter and friend to many".

In a statement issued to the County Gazette, they said: "Our beautiful, happy, caring girl Melanie sadly passed away on February 3, 2020, aged 29, under very tragic circumstances.

"We as her family are absolutely devastated. Please respect our privacy and wishes at this very sad time."

A service of thanksgiving to celebrate Melanie's life is being held at St Andrew's Church, Wiveliscombe, on Thursday, February 20 at 11am.

It will be followed by a private family burial at Chipstable. Arrangements are by Anthony James funeral director.
