A SOMERSET organic garden is opening especially to show off some spectacular snowdrops.
The Yeo Valley Organic Garden, in Blagdon, is welcoming visitors during a special snowdrop weekend from February 14 to 16.
Thousands of snowdrops have been planted in drifts across the 6.5 acre garden, which doesn’t fully open until April.
The special Valentine’s opening, which falls on the first weekend of most schools’ half term, is part of the Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival and is the perfect opportunity to see the garden at a time of year when it’s normally closed to visitors.
Head gardener Andi Strachan said: “There’s nothing quite like seeing a garden as it begins to emerge for the new season and we look forward to welcoming visitors for the first time ever to enjoy our early bulbs.
“There is something to interest everyone.
"Of course, it’s not just snowdrops on display – we have early flowering narcissi, woodland anemones, hundreds of hellebores, and a river of Muscari armeniacum ‘Alida’ (giant grape hyacinths) to contrast with the striking white verticals of the Birch Grove.
“The team and I will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about growing snowdrops and other winter flowering bulbs at home.”
Admission costs £5, with under-16s going free, and the garden is open from 10am until 4pm.
Entry includes full access to the garden and Garden Café, open for tea/coffee and home-made organic cakes and treats.
