A TAUNTON police officer who was almost run over by a burglar he caught was given a bravery award in 2014.

The thief rammed his car at PC Gary Faulks who managed to jump out of the way and the vehicle hit a tree.

His quick-thinking colleague, PC Andy Davies, also from the town, wedged the police car into the back before the burglar was arrested.

The two officers were presented with a Chief Constable’s Commendation by the High Sheriff of Somerset Richard Lloyd and Acting Chief Constable John Long.

The award recognises the men’s “dedication and courage” in the line of duty.

After the presentation, PC Davies said: “It’s an honour to receive this award – I was just doing what I consider to be a day’s police work.”

A total of 23 Avon and Somerset Police officers received Commendations for dedication and bravery at the ceremony.
