THE Taunton Sinfonietta’s December concert will feature once again the winner of the Taunton Young Musician competition.
This year the talented young oboist Ella Leonard was the winner, and she will play a concerto by Ralph Nicholson, the father of Di Gerrold, who sparked Ella’s love of the instrument.
A varied programme of music takes us from the baroque, with a concerto grosso by Corelli, and a concerto for violin, recorder and strings by Telemann, to the 20th century. The concert will include a youthful work from the pen of Sir Michael Tippett, who, with Benjamin Britten, was a leading British composer of the last century; and a rare chance to hear a concerto by another giant amongst British composers, Ralph Vaughan Williams with his ‘Concerto Accademico’, for violin and strings.
Taunton Sinfonietta will be playing at The Temple Methodist Church on Sunday, December 3 at 3pm. To find out more visit www.tauntonsinfonietta.org.uk
