A SCHOOL drama production has won an award for 'punching above its weight'.
'For Queen's and Country', the sell-out show put on by Queen's College, was given the George Crocker Challenge trophy at the Phoebe Rees Awards.
The awards are staged by the Somerset Fellowship of Drama.
The trophy is given to the production which proved it's worth by 'punching above its weight'.
The community play, performed to sell-out audience at the end of last year, was written by the school’s head of drama, Steve Eaton Evans, to mark both the 175th anniversary of Queen’s and the centenary of World War One ending.
A group of staff and students - including Mr Evans and headteacher, Dr Lorraine Earps - attended the awards ceremony at Taunton Rugby Club.
A fellowship spokesperson said: “We have defined this in the past as being for a group, or occasionally an individual, whom the SFD would like to commend for taking on an adventurous production which has stretched them significantly.
“The panel had no hesitation in agreeing to nominate Queen's College when we told them about the enormous number of people, staff and students - both onstage and backstage - involved in making this remarkable, and potentially life-changing, piece of theatre.”
