THE man who died in a road traffic crash near Wellington this week has been named as local businessman Simon Lane.

Mr Lane, aged 54, died at the scene following a collision with a lorry on the A38 near Whiteball at about 1pm on Tuesday (October 8).

He suffered serious injuries and died shortly afterwards.

The family have issued a brief statement saying: "His wife and two daughters would like to thank everyone for their support and thoughts at this difficult time but request that they respect their privacy."

Police enquiries into the incident are continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting call card 0445 of 8 October.

The lorry driver was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life changing or life threatening.

A police spokesperson said: "The incident happened shortly before 1pm on the hill near to the Beambridge Inn and involved a car and a lorry.

"The road was closed to allow an examination by collision investigators.

"We’re keen to hear from anyone who was travelling along the A38 around the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who may have had a dash cam working at the time."
