BOSSES at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital say they are waiting for further details of a £450million handout pledged from the Government.

Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow took to social media to announced the cash would be available to redevelop the hospital site between 2025 and 2030.

Ms Pow, who had her three children in the maternity unit at Musgrove, said a number of buildings on the campus are outdated.

She said: "Many of the buildings here are pretty antiquated."

"The care is excellent, but the buildings on much of this huge site leave a lot to be desired," added Ms Pow.

"I'm absolutely delighted that this is one of the hospitals that the Government has put into the new £3billion project to improve 40 hospitals across the whole nation.

"What will happen first is that they will get some development money to work up the plans and that is much needed.

"It gives the security that something will be happening and it's with a view to transforming the whole of this site between 2025 and 2030 and that's what you can do with a strong economy."

A spokesman for Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Musgrove, said: "We welcome this announcement of provisional additional funding which has come at a time when we are looking closely at the care we provide and planning to integrate mental health, community and hospital services.

"We look forward to hearing further detail from the Department of Health."
