Fire crews were called to reports of a barn on fire on Wellington Road, West Buckland, at 1.47am.
A total of five fire engines, a water carrier, an incident command unit and various supporting officers were sent to the incident.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "On arrival crews confirmed this was a single storey building of brick and block construction with an asbestos roof.
"Building used as a workshop with a number of vehicles, oils and cylinders inside."
He added that the site has a range of single and two storey buildings 30m x 15m used as a private vehicle workshop and holiday let.
The spokesman said: "The building was heavily involved in the fire."
