SOMERSET duo Tom Banton and Lewis Gregory have been named in England's T20 squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.

Banton, 20, has been a breakout star in English cricket this season and scored 549 runs in the Vitality Blast - the second highest in the country behind his Somerset teammate Babar Azam.

It is a first senior England call-up for Banton, who has captained his country at Under-19 level and has now bypassed the Lions to move straight into the senior squad.

He has one century and four fifties in 18 career T20s, which have seen him average 39.40 and strike at 154.30.

Somerset's T20 captain Gregory missed most of this summer's Blast campaign through injury but has had a successful all-round season and will be hoping for a senior England debut.

He has previously been named in England Test and ODI squads - most recently prior to the one-off Test against Ireland in July - without making an appearance.

Gregory has not been selected for the Test squad, which does include Jack Leach following his impressive Ashes series.

The five-match T20 series begins on November 1 while the two-Test series, which does not count towards the World Test Championship, begins on November 21.

Craig Overton, who played the fourth Ashes Test, has been left out of both squads to tour New Zealand.
