A CAR has been left severely damaged following a fire on the M5 southbound.

Firefighters from Wellington and Taunton have been called at 7.40pm on Saturday (July 19) to reports of a car fire between J26 (Wellington) and J27 (Tiverton).

Crews extinguished the fire by using one hose reel jet and compressed air foam with two breathing apparatus wearers. Highways also attended the scene.

Once the fire was put out, crews confirmed the cause to be accidental.

The car was severely damaged by the fire.
