SOMERSET Women were unable to finish their County Championship Division 2 campaign with victory, as visitors Devon edged home by two wickets at Wombats CC (Bishops Lydeard).
Home captain Sophie Luff top scored with 30 as Somerset posted 137 – Nicole Richards contributing 15, Nat Wraith 17 and Emma Godman 16.
Charlie Phillips took 3-21 for the away side, who did give up 45 Extras to boost the Somerset total.
Nonetheless, Devon looked to be cruising to the target as they reached 58-1, with Claire Varcoe (24) and Amara Carr (16) driving them on.
Nicole Richards (4-22) had other ideas, helping reduce the away side to 58-5 along with Tilly Bond (1-19), but Rebecca Halliday (23) and Becca Silk (28no) got Devon over the line.
One more wicket would have given Somerset the bonus point they needed to avoid a second-from-bottom finish, but it was not to be for Luff's young side.
