WHAT really is pub in the park? And is it worth going?

Desperate to see what it is all about, I visited Pub in the Park in Bath.

Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park brings together a range of food and entertainment. This year, Pub in the Park tours around eight different UK venues including Knutsford, Bath, Warwick, Tunbridge Wells, London and St Albans.

Throughout the weekend of June 21 until 23, I found a range of fantastic pop-up pubs, famous chefs and music in Royal Victoria Park in Bath.

I visited Pub in the Park Bath on Sunday for an afternoon session from 1pm until 7pm.

Despite the light rain, it was still a warm afternoon and there were plenty of places to shelter during a shower – it wasn’t quite the muddy field festival I was expecting, which was great.

To start, I wandered around, browsing all the stalls and the exciting products they had to offer. There was everything from gin to brownies and from cheese to kitchen knives.

Chefs, who gave live demonstrations throughout the weekend included Angela Harnett, Josh Eggleton, Stephen Terry, Daniel Clifford and Nick Deverell-Smith. Fred Sirieix opened the show on the Friday night.

I watched Josh Eggleton’s chef demonstration. He seemed nervous at first but then became chatty when he spoke about his food – it is clear he is a passionate chef.

He made a version of the seafood tray on sale at The Pony and Trap pop-up pub, but he used lobster accompanied by pickled cockles, his version of ‘burger sauce’, pickled cucumber and samphire – it looked amazing.

There was so much food on offer from Tom’s own pub, The Hand & Flowers as well as Josh Eggleton’s The Pony & Trap, The Hardwick, Café Murano, Misdummer House, The Churchill Arms, King William and The Marlborough Tavern.

Deciding to sit down for a while, I watched the stage – filled with music on offer.

On the Sunday, we enjoyed music from Dodgy, The Cuban Brothers, The Bluetones and Will Young.
