Marcus Trescothick retires: Cricketing world pays tribute to Somerset batsman

Trescothick, 43, said: "It’s been an incredible 27 years and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“However, everything has to come to an end eventually.

“This club, the members and the supporters mean so much to me. There are so many memories that I will cherish forever, and the club will always hold a truly special place in my heart."

That feeling is clearly mutual given the outpouring of affection since the news broke.

Marcus Trescothick to retire from professional cricket at the end of this season.

He’s made a huge contribution to the game, has been a fine cricketer for England and Somerset and is someone who has made a huge difference to removing the stigma around mental health.

Marcus Trescothick has today announced that he will be retiring from professional cricket at the end of this season.
