Police are appealing for information after the incident, in Monkton Heathfield.

The drama unfolded at about 8pm on Wednesday, June 5, as the 16-year-old boy walked along School Road.

"Two men approached him from a footpath as he neared the end of the road," said a police spokesperson.

"One punched him, knocking him to the ground and trying to take his bag.

"The boy managed to regain his feet and run away down a footpath. Nothing was stolen."

Both men are described as white and aged 19 or 20.

One was about 5ft 9ins tall. He had stubble on his face and wore a black hoody and skinny black trousers.

The other was slightly shorter. He also wore skinny black trousers but had a light-coloured hoody.

"Dog walkers and people visiting the nearby Co-op make the road busy," the spokesperson added.

"We’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area at around 8pm on Wednesday."

Anyone who saw anything, or has any other information which could help, should contact police on 101 quoting reference 5219125576.
