COMMUTERS coming into Taunton this morning (Wednesday) will have noticed this traffic light on the ground.

The signal outside The Ale House on the junction of Priory Bridge Road and Station Road was knocked down by a vehicle.

It has been fenced off and cones have been placed beside it for safety reasons.

Pedestrians hoping to cross from outside the pub to The Crown and Sceptre on the other side are unable to press the button on the light to halt the traffic.

They either have to wait for someone on the opposite side to press the button or walk further up the road to cross.

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “One of our traffic lights on Priory Bridge Road was knocked over in a road traffic collision over the weekend.

"We are arranging for repairs to take place as soon as possible and will also seek to reclaim costs for the repairs if possible.”
