A PLANNING application has been submitted for a new primary school in Wellington.

The new Isambard Kingdom Brunel Primary School is set to be built on the Longforth Farm development.

The school will be run by the Castle Partnership Trust, which also runs The Castle School in Taunton.

The land was reserved for a primary school under a s.106 agreement when the development of houses was given approval.

The new school will be a two storey 420 place Free School providing classrooms, library, SEN facilities, a multi-use hall, kitchen and dining facilities. There will also be a 39 place nursery.

It is hoped reception and nursery children can attend the school from September next year.

A spokesman said: "The school will be the fourth school in the very successful and thriving Castle Partnership Trust. IKB will be welcoming the first children into the superb nursery and reception class in September 2020.

"The brand new and exciting new school will serve the community in Longforth Farm and its immediate environs.

"The school will also offer lobs for local people led by a school and trust leaders for the benefit of the local community."
