IT was party time at Somerset Sight as the charity celebrated its centenary at its HQ in Staplegrove Road, Taunton, on Friday.

This year will see a packed programme of fundraising events marking 100 years of working with blind and partially sighted people of all ages across the county since 1919.

Friday's fun saw pupils from North Town Primary School dropping by with large 3d letters spelling out Somerset Sight.

The youngsters enjoyed descriptive games, ball rolling while blindfolded and learning how to guide a visually impaired person.

In the afternoon there was a celebratory lunch with bucks fizz and birthday cake and around 100 service users, volunteers and supporters attended.

A spokesman said: "It is amazing to think that Somerset Sight has been supporting people in Somerset for 100 years and been based in the county town for all that time as well.

"We are now looking to the future and where the next 100 years take us."
