A TRIO of Ells from Twyford Celts, Tiverton reigned supreme at the IAWA British Championships held in Burton upon Trent.

First was Max Ell, 19, competing in the ladies’ junior under-45 kilo body weight class, hoping to add to her growing collection of titled and records.

She had an excellent day, breaking three world, junior and open records on her way to securing the title and best junior lifter of the day.

Next up was older sister Maddy, 21, competing in the open ladies’ under-55 kilo class.

She lifted with great composure. She achieved several personal bests and secured another British title, to complement her Olympic lifting and powerlifting titles from earlier in the year.

Later in the day, they got to watch their dad in action when it was the turn of the heavyweight lifters competing in the 95 kilo class.

That is where masters lifter Gary Ell, 45, the current world and British champion, lifted superbly to take the title, breaking the world record in the continental to belt lift in the process.

Meanwhile Gary and Max are competing this weekend at the Welsh Open Championships in Port Talbot.
