FOUR pupils from Blundell’s School in Tiverton are celebrating after being offered places at Oxford and Cambridge universities.

James Perring has an offer to read Medicine at St Catherine’s College, Oxford; Ben Charles to read Law at Keble College, Oxford; Ed Nash has an offer to read Medicine at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and Run Zhao to read Mathematics at Churchill College, Cambridge.

It is the second time in two years that four pupils at the school have successfully applied to Oxbridge.

This year, a total of 13 pupils applied, of which nine gained interviews across a range of subjects.

Head teacher, Nicola Huggett said: "James, Ben, Edward and Run have worked incredibly hard and richly deserve these offers.

"To have four successful entrants for another successive year is a reflection of how seriously we take academic aspiration at Blundell's.

"There is huge competition for places at these universities with more than 34,000 applying for around 6,600 undergraduate places at the two universities in 2013, so even to be able to put forward an application and to gain an interview is a significant achievement.

"All nine pupils who were interviewed deserve congratulations.

"We are very proud of them and they are a great credit to the school.

"I would also like to pay tribute to the teachers, tutors, mentors and families who have supported these pupils whilst they have been studying here."
