ST PIRAN’S Day Cornish folk concert will mark the launch of The Alverton as a new events venue this year.

The Cornish hotel’s Great Hall in Truro will be offering a whole host of exciting events, including themed balls, live music, murder mystery nights and theatre performances.

The Great Hall’s jam-packed calendar of events begin with a very Cornish Folk Concert to mark the launch and celebrate St Piran’s Day on March 5.

Cornish folk singer-songwriter and member of the popular group The Oggymen, Will Keating will be gathering some extra-special guests, including internationally renowned Cornish duo Davey & Dyer, and banjo player John Dowling, for an inspiring and uplifting ensemble of talented musicians embracing the Kernow spirit.

Will said: “I am so pleased to be able to open an exciting year of planned events at The Alverton’s Great Hall. And what a way to do it, on St Piran’s Day surrounded by some of Cornwall’s greatest musicians.

"The Great Hall dates back to the 1800s and is the perfect city venue to host this annual celebration of Cornwall. Expect pasties, ale, saffron cake, singing, tapping along and dancing. It will be a night to remember!”

The inaugural event will begin at 7pm, with the concert starting at 7.30pm until 9.30pm with half an hour for the interval.

Tickets are now on sale via Eventbrite for £15 per person, which includes entry, a free pint from event sponsors Sharp’s Brewery and a pasty during the interval.
