THE Great Estate festival, held at Scorrier house at the end of May, has announced its first big names for 2020.

American hip-hop legends The Sugarhill Gang and Welsh rap group Goldie Lookin Chain will be landing at Scorrier House for the event, which takes place from May 29 to 31.

Revealing the first headline act of 2020, the festival will welcome New Jersey outfit The Sugarhill Gang to the main stage on Sunday, May31.

With ‘Rappers Delight’ being the first rap single to become a Top 40 hit, the American superstars also became responsible for the highest selling hip-hop record of all time. Promising a live show that will span the group’s entire career, fans can expect a stunning set featuring each band member on instruments.

South Wales rappers Goldie Lookin Chain – famed for the iconic 2004 tune ‘Guns Don’t Kill People, Rappers Do’ – clad in vibrant leisurewear, shot onto the music scene in the early Noughties.

Currently, amid a 15th-anniversary tour, Goldie Lookin Chain will be bringing their Newport-inspired lyrics to The Great Estate on Saturday, May 30.

Other confirmed acts include Charli 2na (Jurassic 5), Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer, Hip Hop Karaoke, Malavita, Indian Man, The Correspondents, Love DeluxX, London Afrobeat Collective, Krafty Kuts, Andy Quick Band, plus many more in the pipeline to be revealed in coming months.

Unveiling what is to be the festival's most explosive performance to date, The Great Estate is welcoming the mesmerising Lords of Lightning.

As the night sky draws in and the light turns to dark, cracking shards of lightning will fire from the bodies of two knights as they battle atop podiums in the rolling fields of Scorrier House.

Happenings abound for The Great Estate's fourth anniversary year, including the return of the dazzling Grand Cinematic Experience that had crowds delighted last year, the mystical Woodland Silent Disco, Comedy Club, plus a host of burlesque performances that will fuse fire-eating, feather and silk fan dancing, and hula hoop.

Talks at Teatime and Delicious Demos are among the newest additions to The Great Estate. Appearing within the decadent grand hallway of Scorrier House, guests can expect a gastronomic explosion, including culinary masterclasses from renowned local chefs and wine tasting sessions from the festival's resident sommeliers. Mini speaker events will also take place in the magnificent manor house covering a list of subjects such as spirituality, rock and roll, wellbeing, and environmentalism.

Festival directors Ben Hall and Ian Whittaker said: “We are incredibly excited to open the gates to The Great Estate in 2020. As the event evolves, it gets more immersive and extra theatrical. We have a selection of ambitious projects in the pipeline and a host of brilliant acts to still announce.

"We can't wait to reveal all. Watch this space.”

With the sound of trumpets, violins, and flutes set to fill the air, the brilliant classical music line-up includes performances of opera, string quartets and jazz.

Taking up residence in Tarquin's Secret Gin Garden, returning favourites will also include Lady Violet Hugh and The Blue Angels.

As the sun goes down, the old walled gardens and winding pathways will quickly transpire into an upbeat garden party welcoming the likes of Dick Valentine of Electric 6.

The Great Estate has also announced a series of pop-up, open-air feasts hidden within the famous gardens of the Scorrier House Estate.

Preparing a mouth-watering selection of dishes over outside grills, the banquet, hosted by Woodfired Canteen, will be served to a long communal table of diners.

Topping off the current festival programme is the retro-inspired funfair, foraging workshops, vintage clothes stalls, and skate sessions at the Mount Hawke half pipe. The Sanctuary will also reopen with a feel-good agenda incorporating aerial yoga, sound bath healing, laughter yoga, gong workshops and children’s yoga sessions.

Weekend Camping Tickets are currently on sale priced from £75, plus £4.50 booking fee. Glamping options with bell tents are also available.

Campervan, caravan and motorhome pitches must be purchased in advance via the website. The Great Estate operates a tiered ticket system, with prices changing over time. An allocation of tickets is reserved for each tier, this will close when the allocation of tickets is sold out.
