THE smell of delicious cream teas will soon be filling the county! The Big South West Cream Tea takes place from September 20 to September 27 to help raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West.
People across the region will be enjoying tasty cream teas for this charitable cause, with people around Cornwall supporting the delicious annual event to help raise money for the Precious Lives Appeal, to build a children’s hospice in Cornwall.
As Chair of the CHSW Penzance Friend’s Group and wife to St Just’s vicar, Wendy Leach is no stranger to cream tea events – in fact she says she has organised around 250 over the years and made thousands of scones! Here Wendy shares some of her secrets to hosting a successful event.
Wendy – who with the Children’s Hospice South West Penzance Friends Group is holding a Big Cream Tea at Trengwainton Gardens on September 27 says: “If you’re organised it helps to take the stress away which adds to your enjoyment as well as everybody else’s! A lot of people come in for a chat as well as a delicious cream tea break and it’s nice to be able to take the time to talk to your guests.”
Whether your Big Cream Tea is a huge event in a vast estate, a busy one in a village hall, a small one in your back garden, or a gathering of colleges in the office, and whatever tips you use on the day, the important thing is that you and your guests enjoy the experience, whilst also helping to raise vital funds for the Precious Lives Appeal.
If you’re not hosting your own cream tea but would like to join in the tasty event, why not go along to a Big Cream Tea near you? From Penzance, to Saltash there are events being held all around the county so look out for posters advertising events in your home town or village or your workplace! A number of Big South West Cream Tea events are also listed in the local events diary on our website: www.chsw.org.uk To advertise your event on our website or for further information about holding a cream tea event please contact Mary Murfin, Community Fundraiser for Cornwall on mary.murfin@chsw.org.uk or 01872 261 166.
